Welcome to the start of your safari and welcome to Tanzania! You’ve chosen a fantastic place for your safari journey and we’ll get you started with an introductory briefing before we head out to begin the trip you’ve been dreaming of.
Arusha is an important part of your northern Tanzanian safari and not just because of its position as a gateway to the safari parks of the country’s north. With its dynamic street life and markets, fascinating museums and enticing street food, it’s an exciting city that deserves exploring.
There’s nowhere in Tanzania where you have a better chance of seeing big cats than in the Central Serengeti. You’ll also see lots of other animals as you explore the savannah grasslands and silhouetted acacia trees with us. This is the Serengeti’s heartland and it is the most popular area of the park, but with very good reason.
Rise above it all in a hot-air balloon and take in the extraordinary views on our balloon safari. It’s an unforgettable experience and the photos you’ll take from up here will include views other travelers can only dream of. After your breathtaking flight, enjoy a champagne toast and a delicious breakfast in the middle of the Serengeti, making this adventure even more magical.
Explore the Ngorongoro Highlands, the high-altitude forests that cover the landscape close to Ngorongoro Crater. The climate here is much cooler than elsewhere in northern Tanzania, and the views of craters and mountains can be spectacular. Watch also for wildlife, including lions, buffaloes and even leopards, in the forests.
When you arrive on Zanzibar Island, you’ll know immediately that it is a place like no other. Tourists from all over the world come here to chill out on some of Africa’s most beautiful beaches and explore the surrounding coral reefs and islets. Another facet of the island is its characterful old Stone Town, whose handsome architecture recalls a time when Zanzibar was a wealthy center of Indian Ocean trade and a major producer of cloves and other fine spices.
Go horseback-riding out into the wild and slow down to the pace of the animals. From high on your new trusted companion, feel a part of the environment in a way that is impossible in a vehicle. Admire the view, listen to the birds, and enjoy the rhythm of exploring in this way.
Visitors love Nungwi, which has one of the most beautiful beaches on Zanzibar Island. Nungwi is also a top spot from which to watch the sunset. This was a major boat-building center where they once made the traditional wooden sailing boats called dhows. You can learn about turtle conservation while you’re here.

Boat Trip, Changuu (Prison) Island
One of our favorite activities on Zanzibar is a boat trip to Changuu Island. This lovely spot is also known as Prison Island, after a restored fortress-like building that was constructed in the 1890s as a prison, only to be repurposed as a quarantine center instead. Today, the island is best known for a population of giant tortoises that were introduced from the Seychelles and are now protected in a sanctuary where the oldest individual is said to have been around for 120-plus years. A visit to Changuu is normally followed by a swim and a beach barbecue on an exposed sandbar known as Nakupenda Island, but this is dependent on weather and tides.
Spend more time getting to know Nungwi.
Snorkeling, Mnemba Island
Go snorkeling with us and enjoy discovering a whole new world of wonder just below the ocean’s surface. The marine life you’ll see could just become one of the highlights of your trip.
Your safari in Tanzania will come to an end, bringing to a close your time in this remarkable country. We’re sure that you have had the most wonderful time.
